The TEDxToronto core organizing committee is made up of a group of passionate volunteers from a variety of disciplines who have come together to further the TED mission of giving voice to ideas worth spreading in our community. Now in its 9th year, TEDxToronto continues to be completely volunteer run and supported by many generous community-minded companies and organizations.

    Afshin Mousavian

    Co-Chair

    Afshin has worked with TEDxToronto and the global TEDx community since 2011. He is currently one of the Co-Chairs for the conference. Afshin is the VP of Business Development at Demac Media, a commerce agency based out of Toronto that consults retailers in technology and growth strategies.

    Co-Chair

    In her third year with TEDxToronto, Lisa Trudeau is a creative marketing professional and avid follower of all things TED. Beyond her work with TEDxToronto, Lisa consults with startups and companies seeking unique marketing solutions. Lisa is passionate about travel, design and collaborating with big thinkers.

    Jeff Lohnes

    Co-Chair & Director of Programming

    This is Jeff’s fifth year involved with organizing TEDxToronto. By day, he is a partner at Jeff Jacobson Agency – a boutique speakers bureau and creative talent management firm. He’s passionate about music, community building and discovering every inch of Canada and beyond. For fun, he likes to start businesses and help others grow theirs. That’s fun to him.

    Dalia Haimen

    Creative Director

    With a past in Fine Arts & Sculpture and a degree in Industrial Design from OCADU, Dalia believes in karma, inspiring leadership and challenging the status quo. She is the Creative Manager at The PUR Company leading brand strategy and product innovation and was previously the creative designer for TEDxToronto 2015 and the Director of Marketing for TEDxToronto 2016.

    Emma Truax

    Director of Marketing

    In her third year with TEDxToronto, Emma Truax is an active volunteer in the Toronto community. When she isn't working on TEDxToronto, she is helping plan the annual Bay Street Hoops basketball tournament or exploring the city with her dog. She runs her own marketing business helping clients improve their online presence.

    Laura Carinci

    Director of Partnerships

    Laura spends her 9 to 5 working for H&M Canada, spearheading new market launches from coast-to-coast. Previously, she managed the American Express Centurion and Platinum card portfolios at BT/A Advertising, linking luxury brands with discerning clientele for one-of-a-kind experiences. Prior to this, Laura helmed strategic marketing initiatives at Rogers Publishing for magazines like FLARE, Today’s Parent and Glow. She executed large-scale, co-branded events with companies such as Joe Fresh and H&M. She enjoys travelling with friends, sourcing great restaurants in each city she visits and drinking the best white wine she can find.

    Kirstin Turnbull

    Director of Logistics

    Kirstin has been producing innovative and award-winning events across North America for over 22 years. Her obsession with the audience experience and her unique approach to B2B event marketing has resulted in GOLD and BRONZE Event Tech Award wins. A three time RBC Canadian Women Entrepreneur of the Year nominee during tenure as Owner and President of Moxie Promotions Inc. In 2007, Kirstin sold the business to a competitor and now mood boards her next endeavor while holding down her dream agency role as Sr. Director, B2B at Mosaic. In her downtime, she is most likely found reading a book, while hugging a dachshund and eating a donut.

    Project Manager

    From curating the first ever live speaker TEDx conference in the city of Windsor to his second year with TEDxToronto, Karun Malik has a passion for TEDx. Karun was on the organizing team for 5 different TEDx conferences in the last 6 years. As a curious person, Karun believes we can never force someone to be creative or innovative, but we can always create curiosity in the atmosphere which can give birth to ideas worth sharing.

    Director of Events

Outside of work hours, Catherine loves organizing dinner parties, playing soccer and appreciates a really good dance party.

When she’s not placing her company stories in tier 1 press, you can find her exploring new restaurants and bars in Toronto and around the world.
