  • TEDxToronto’s Adam Garone now on TED.com

It’s the first day of Movember and appropriately, the TEDxToronto 2011 Talk by Adam Gerone, CEO and Founder of the month-long male-cancer awareness & fundraising event, has been selected as the TEDTalk of the day at TED.com.

TED only chooses one talk a day to feature on TED.com from among thousands of annual TED and TEDx Talks worldwide.  We are extremely proud that Adam’s is the sixth TEDxToronto Talk to be featured on TED.com.

Yesterday we posted the first 4 Talks from this year’s TEDxToronto and will continue posting throughout the month.  Before it’s time to shave off all those ‘staches, we’ll have the entire series of 2012 Talks online.  Watch again or for the first time, share, and be inspired by these ideas worth spreading.

  • Ryan Merkley Demos Popcorn Maker at TEDGlobal

We are so proud to announce former TEDxToronto Co-Chair and Mozilla Chief Operating Officer, Ryan Merkley’s TED Talk which was presented with a live demo of  Popcorn Maker at TEDGlobal in Edinburgh on June 29th.

Debuting today on TED.com, this talk on Popcorn Maker, an online tool developed as part of Mozilla’s Webmaker program, makes it easy for anyone to add live content to any video — photos, maps, social media feeds and more, showcasing Popcorn’s potential to change the way the world tells stories on the web.

Watch a remixed TEDTalk using Popcorn Maker — and remix it yourself!

“Video arrived on the web in a small box, separated from the incredible data and content all around it,” says Merkley. “Popcorn changes all of that. Videos created with Popcorn behave like the rest of the web — dynamic, full of links, completely remixable, and finally able to break out beyond the box.”

Watch Ryan’s Talk on Popcorn Marker and learn more about this incredible tool.

  • TEDxToronto is City’s ‘Premier Speaker Series’: Report

TEDxToronto is the city’s “premier speaker series,” according to The Globe and Mail.

Canada’s newspaper of record made the declaration in a news article published on Aug. 3.

“That TEDxToronto has grown from a small event watched by 100 people four years ago into this city’s biggest, best-known speaker series, is largely testament to the unpaid team of volunteers behind the event, mostly twentysomethings with résumés equally divided between charity work and new-media expertise,” wrote reporter Jay Somerset.

The Globe also lauds TEDxToronto for its “always compelling” TED talks.

“A far cry from the canned speeches of CEOs (‘work smarter, not harder’) or the Hallmark sentimentality of a Tony Robbins wannabe, TED talks are sometimes controversial, often contrarian and always compelling,” Somerset continued.

  • Recap: TEDGlobal 2012 at the ING Café

On June 28, 2012, TEDxToronto hosted a day of compelling talks from TEDGlobal 2012 – a video stream from Edinburgh, Scotland.

TEDsters arrived at ING DIRECT Canada‘s Café to watch a number of sessions, including ‘Talk to Strangers,’ ‘The Upside of Transparency’ and ‘Reframing.’ Touching upon the week-long conference’s theme of Radical Openness, the sessions explored our journey towards greater openness, collaboration and inventiveness.

Speakers talked about making education more accessible, the power of crowdsourcing and why data sharing should be encouraged.

Participants came throughout the day, settling into comfortable couches, as the TEDGlobal talks were broadcast on ING DIRECT’s large television screens.

One local participant said TED has been an inspiration since he experienced his first talk in Warsaw, Poland. He said he continues to seek out TED events around the world, wherever he is.

TEDGlobal 2012: Radical Openness took place from June 25 to 29, 2012.
